You may have guessed that our first product owl-fie was inspirated from an owl. BUT it is not from any ordinary owl. In Indonesia these birds are called "Serak Jawa". Tyto Alba is the same as Serak Jawa but cooler name.

Do you know anything about them?

I'll describe some of their characteristic for you..

First, the most unique characteristic of Serak Jawa is their heart-shaped faces.

Second, their eyes are facing front unlike other birds. Well, most owl's eyes are facing front but Serak Jawa's eyes definitely looked different.

Third, like most owl, Serak Jawa are nocturnal animal. So, they can see clearly in the dark.

They also have quite wide vision since they can turn their heads 270 degrees.

Serak Jawa have acute sense of hearing for hunting at night.

Their prey tends to be small mammals like rats.

Serak Jawa have different body length sizes from 29 to 44 cm (11 to 17 in) depends on their location and food supply.

Then, Serak Jawa does not hoot (which usually used by typical owls), but instead, they make an eerie, long-drawn-out shriek. Moreover, they can hiss like a snake to scare away intruders.

Serak Jawa are loyal to their partner. They usually stick to one partner for life unless one of the pair dies.

Serak Jawa's average life-span is about 4 years.
